Resin abrasives are fragile high-speed rotating consumables. Non-standard storage, installation and operation may cause cracking, flying fragments and severe safety accidents. Based on national standard GB2494 Safety Rules for Abrasive Tools and EU standard EN12413, the Technical Center of Zhejiang White Horse Abrasives Co., Ltd. releases unified maintenance and safety operation specifications covering all cutting discs, grinding discs, flap discs and wire brushes for manufacturers and hardware distributors.
1. Standard Storage & Maintenance Rules
- Environment Requirements: All resin abrasives must be stored in cool, dry warehouses away from high-temperature heat sources, rain and damp floors; direct sunlight is prohibited. Humidity accelerates resin aging and shortens the service life of abrasives.
- Stacking Rules: Thin cutting discs shall be laid flat on racks at least 10cm above ground with stacking height under 1 meter. Vertical standing storage is forbidden to prevent deformation and cracking. Wire brushes and flap discs shall be hung to avoid deformation from compressed sand cloth or steel wires.
- Shelf Life Management: All WHITE HORSE resin abrasives are printed with clear production and expiry dates, with a standard valid period of 2–3 years for cutting and grinding discs. Discs exceeding shelf life must undergo rotary burst testing before use, as aged resin binder loses most bonding strength and must not be mounted directly on machines.
- Regular Inventory Inspection: Conduct stocktaking every six months and discard any abrasives with cracks, damp whitening or edge chipping. Damaged products are strictly prohibited from use.
2. Machine Mounting Specifications
- Fully inspect both sides and inner/outer rings of abrasives before mounting; discard immediately if notches, hidden cracks or deformation are detected.
- Flange size must match the abrasive bore with clean and flat contact surfaces. Fasten nuts moderately without hammer striking.
- Fit the original machine guard after installation; operators shall wear full PPE including safety goggles, dust-proof gloves and earplugs.
- Conduct 1–3 minutes no-load trial rotation after abrasive replacement; only start processing if no vibration or abnormal noise occurs.
3. Operation & Maintenance Tips During Work
- Strictly follow the printed MAX RPM rating; overspeed operation is forbidden. Control air pressure for pneumatic grinders to avoid exceeding rated speed.
- Cutting discs shall only be used for end-face cutting, never side grinding. Depressed center grinding discs shall work at a 15°–30° angle; heavy flat surface grinding is prohibited.
- Feed workpieces evenly with gentle pressure to avoid violent impact or jamming. Lift the abrasive immediately if jamming occurs to prevent high-temperature cracking from local overheating.
- Pause for cooling every 10 minutes under continuous heavy grinding to avoid resin softening and failure from excessive heat.
- Wait for the abrasive to stop rotating completely before replacement; never touch rotating abrasives.
4. Replacement Standard for Worn Consumables
Replace cutting discs when 1/3 of the abrasive thickness remains, grinding discs once the abrasive layer is exhausted, flap discs when large-area sand cloth peeling occurs, and wire brushes when most steel wires bend or break. Do not use worn consumables beyond service limits.
